an evening of live-directed dance dramaturgy
This evening brings together artists from years one and two of our ongoing artist development programme, Sketch, to reflect, share and focus on the role of a dramaturg in the creation of contemporary performance.
Over the past two years, eight artists have had the opportunity to work with Dutch dance dramaturg Peggy Olislaegers.
They have been encouraged to question their work and to become their own dramaturgs, exploring what their own ideal processes of making work are.
This evening will include the charismatic Peggy Olislaegers live-directing new material: Hannah Buckley’s S/HE, a performance about complexity. A woman and a man attempt to make sense of a binary world, question it and imagine an alternative. Influenced by real stories, science fiction and menstruation S/HE seeks to support men, women and everything in-between.
She'll also workshop a short solo extract of Sonder by Jamaal Burkmar and Atlantis by Lydia Cottrell.
This exhilarating evening will give a revealing insight into what it’s like for an artist to work with a dramaturg.
